Two Spirit Information



Two Spirit is a modern term used to describe those who embody the male and female spirit, sometimes referred to as ‘walking both paths’. It is a term in reference to gender not exactly sexual orientation. Many tribes historically have traditions where individuals of this nature exist. We here at American Indian Health Service accept those who walk all paths and we aim to offer knowledge about HIV/AIDS to all, no matter which path you walk.

What can YOU do?

1. Get educated! Learn about the risks and ways you can be healthy.

2. Be an educator! Talk to your friends and family about what you learned and what they can do to be safe.

3. Be safe! Use protection every time you have sex. Do not share needles or works to inject drugs or for tattoos and piercings.

4. Get help! Learn to communicate and ask questions! Your health providers and communities are there to help.

5. Get involved! Volunteer, spread awareness, and be an advocate in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
